The 8th Eye International Conference, presented by Eye Filmmuseum and the University of Amsterdam, focuses on 'Activating the Archive: Audiovisual Collections and Civic Engagement, Global Collaboration, and Societal Change'. It brings together scholars, archivists, curators, filmmakers, students, artists, and film enthusiasts from around the world to explore contemporary issues in audiovisual heritage. Following the 2018 edition, this Activating the Archive conference aims to extend the discussion on how audiovisual archives can inspire engagement with social and political causes. It focuses on the utilization and development of audio-visual collections as shared resources, emphasizing global and local projects and collaborations. It seeks contributions from various fields, practices, and regions to showcase diverse approaches to community-based audio-visual archiving.
The conference also celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the Master's in Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image program of the University of Amsterdam in collaboration with Eye Filmmuseum, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, the Living Media Arts foundation (LIMA), and many other institutions worldwide that have hosted P&P students for their internship. Join the conference to engage in diverse discussions on collaboration, community-based archiving, and the impact of audiovisual collections on society.
The Eye International Conference 2023 will be held in Amsterdam from June 4th to June 7th, 2023. The official opening, combined with the annual Meet the Archive program, will take place on the evening of Saturday, June 3rd.
