La Cineteca del Friuli (Gemona)

>> View CDF collections on EFG The Cineteca del Friuli was founded in Gemona in 1977, soon after the city was destroyed by the earthquake of May 1976, and is now one of the five major Italian film libraries. It joined the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) in 1989. The film archive began with a collection of films of historical interest and it has grown considerably over the years: it currently includes some 10,000 films in 35mm and 16mm, 50% fiction and 50% newsreels and documentaries. Small formats such as 17.5 mm, 9.5 mm, the 8mm and Super8 are also represented in about 500 copies. In addition to the film collections, the vast research library consists of over 25,000 books and a large collection of film journals and magazines. The video library currently includes about 22,500 titles. Books, periodicals and DVDs have also been published. The Cineteca del Friuli is today a centre for documentation and studies, in contact with private and public archives, museums and universities across the world. It is in addition a phototèque (60,000 photos), a centre for the organisation of festivals (the Pordenone Silent Film Festival in the first place) and other events of local, national and international context. The Cineteca del Friuli is the repository of regional legal deposit of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and is the public point of reference for archival and curatorial film activities in the region.
