Agia Sophia (8th c.) and the Panagia Halkaion church (11th cent.), which was named after its proximity to the coppersmith’s workshops. 6. The church of Agia Aikaterini(13th cent.) and Agioi Apostoloi. The last part of byzantine monuments consists of the church of Profitis Ilias and of Agios Nikolaos Orfanos with its wonderfull frescos. Both date from the 14th century. )
4. OTTOMAN OCCUPATION The year 1430 marks the end of the Byzantine Thessaloniki and the beginning of the Ottoman occupation: Sultan Murat Chan occupies the city. Nevertheless, centuries of invasions and occupations did not manage to wipe away Thessaloniki’s Greek soul. )
5. MACEDONIAN WAR AND BALKAN WARS This part refers to the period of the Balkan Wars and the leading figures of the war: Ion Dragoumis, Metropolitan Karavaggelis, Consul Koromilas, as well as Pavlos Melas and Telos Agras. It ends with a reference to the Balkan Wars that liberated Thessaloniki. )
6. WORLD WAR I AND THE FIRE IN THESSALONIKI Brief reference to World War I and the fire of Thessaloniki of 1917, which resulted in a stream of 70,000 homeless people.)
7. THE CONTEMPORARY CITY The contemporary city, which was built after the fire, is depicted with beautiful aerial shots. Shots of the waterfront, Aristotelous square, the Residency (Dioikitirio), the apartment buildings of the interwar years and of the 1960s, the Ministry of Northern Greece, etc. )
