Detailed description provided by the archive:
From 1969 to 1974, camera man and photographer Peter Gauhe (*1940) worked closely with German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945-1982) as a set photographer and actor. 4,500 digitised film stills and set photos from, for example, “Warnung vor einer heiligen Nutte” (1970), “Händler der vier Jahreszeiten” (1971), “Fontane Effi Briest” (1972-1974) and “Welt am Draht” (1973) offer a unique perspective on Fassbinder’s work, which is otherwise concealed from the ordinary movie audience. Instead of putting the actors acting for the film camera into the centre of attention, the photographer’s camera focuses on the director Fassbinder and his team, who closely watch the particular scene with a critical eye.
