Pre-Socialist Cinema:
The BNFA provides access to a collection of early Bulgarian narrative and documentary films, made before the communist coup on September 9th, 1944. Most prominently, the collection features the film “Love is Folly” (1917, directed by Vasil Gendov), which is the oldest preserved Bulgarian narrative film.
Pre-Socialist Newsreels:
The BNFA provides access to a collection of Bulgarian newsreels, primarily from the period 1941 to 1944, shortly before the communist coup on September 9th, 1944. These newsreels provide a glimpse of daily life in Bulgaria during World War II and the reign of King Boris III.
